Matar Pulao Rice with Peas Recipe Indian & Pakistani


2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon red chilis
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 onion chopped
1 chicken cube
1 cup frozen green peas thawed
2 cups basmati rice, rinsed and drained
4 cups water
Salt to taste


Heat the oil in a deep heavy skillet over low heat. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf and onions. Cook for a few minutes until onions are brown and then add all the spices.. Stir in the water, chicken cube and peas; bring to a boil cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Add rice to the pan, bring to a boil, then cover, and cook for about 15 minutes, until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed. Serve hot with salad or yogurt salad (raita).
