Red Lentil Masoor Dal Pakistani Indian Recipe


1 cup onions chopped (pyaz)

1 inch fresh ginger paste (adrak)

3 large cloves of garlic sliced (lehsan)

1 cup red lentils (Masoor dal)

1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric (haldi powder)

1 cup chopped tomatoes (tamater)

1 tablespoon red chili peppers (lal mirch powder)

1 1/2 teaspoons Salt (namak)

1 tablespoon coriander powder (dhania powder)

4 tablespoons vegetable oil (teal)

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (zeera)

1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (rai)

2 red dried chiles (sokhi lal mirch)

2 cups water (pani)



Wash the lentils until the water runs clear and keep it aside. In a pan add oil, onions until there brown, tomatoes, dry spices, lentils, water and cover.  When the lentils are done. In a pan heat oil add cumin and mustard seeds, garlic, red chilis and ginger until very fragrant. Pour this mixture onto the lentils and serve hot with naan or rice.
