How To Make Soft Flatbread- Roti Chapathi Phulka Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour
½ teaspoon salt or to taste
1 tablespoon oil
½ cup water or as required

Directions:

Sift the flour and salt into a bowl. Make a well in the middle and pour in the water, a little at a time, mixing it in with the flour, until you have a soft dough. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead well for 7 – 10 minutes or in the bowl until it is very smooth and silky. Add oil on top of the dough and tap it gently into the dough. Cover and rest for at least 2 hours. Divide the dough into equal pieces. Dust your work surface with flour. Gently, using a floured rolling pin roll out round shape bread, size will depend on your dough balls.

Heat a non stick or cast iron pan, on a medium heat. When hot place the rolled bread on the pan. Fry for about 30 seconds to a minute on the first side, and when you see little air bubbles and then flip the bread. Cook for another minute on the second side, then flip it again. At this point, press gently at various points on the surface of the bread, and it should puff up. Take off the heat and wrap the breads in aluminum foil to keep them warm or in a hotpot. Serve with lentils, meat dish and salad.
