Bitter Melon With Potatoes (Kerela Aloo) Recipe


2-3 medium size bitter melon

1 cup sliced potatoes

1 cup sliced onions

2 medium size tomatoes

1/2 large green peppers

1 tablespoon coriander

1 tablespoon cumin seeds

1/2 tablespoon red chili

Salt to taste

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 1/2 tablespoon ginger paste

3-4 cloves sliced garlic



Peel the potatoes and sliced and also peel the onions cut it into thinly slice. Wash the bitter melon and tomatoes and cut it into thinly sliced.

Heat oil in a pan and fry the bitter melon until lightly brown. In the same oil add the cumin seeds, ginger paste, garlic slices and onion slices. Once the onions are translucent add the potatoes on medium flame and add all the spices powder.

Add the tomatoes, green chilies and cover the pan with a lid. Keep the flame low and let it cook till the potatoes, are done. Once potatoes are cooked add the fry bitter melon to the mix.

Mix well and cook for about 2 minutes. Serve hot with rice or bread.
