Fry Chana Dal ( Split Yellow Lentils)


1 cup chana dal(yellow split peas)

3 cups water

1 tablespoon salt

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1/2 teaspoon red chilies powder

1 tablespoon coriander powder

2 inches julienne ginger

1 tablespoon cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon black seeds

3-5 green chilies sliced

4 cloves garlic chopped

1 large onion thinly sliced

2 tomatoes chopped

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/4 cup cilantro

1 tablespoon 7 spices powder



Take yellow lentils and soak them for 2-3 hours. Rinse lentils well and add it to a pot. Add salt and water with lentils and once foam start coming to the top remove the foam and cook until tender.

Now in a pan add oil, cumin seeds, black seeds, ginger garlic, onions and tomatoes. cook until everything is well cooked and then add cilantro and green chilies, red chilies, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and salt to taste.

Cook for 5 minutes and then add boiled lentils and cook for another 10 minutes and then serve hot with garnish on top. Serve with naan, rice and some yogurt salad.
