5 Mix dal recipe
Ingredients:
½ cup chana dal (split yellow gram)
½ cup masoor dal (split red lentil)
½ cup urad dal (split black lentils)
½ cup sabut moong dal (whole green gram)
½ cup moong dal (split green gram)
1 tablespoon namak (salt or to taste)
½ tablespoon haldi (turmeric powder)
1 tablespoon zeera (cumin seeds)
1 tablespoon dhania (coriander seeds)
1 tablespoon rai (mustard seeds)
1 large chopped pyaz (onion)
5 pieces of lehsun chopped (garlic pods)
1 tablespoon adrak paste (ginger)
½ can tamater paste or finely chopped (tomatoes)
½ tablespoon garam masala (7 spices powder)
1 tablespoon red chillies powder
1 tablespoon dhania powder (coriander)
3 dry red chillies
Water
Oil
Garnish:
3 sabaz mirch (green chilies)
1 cup sabaz dhania (cilantro)
Direction:
Wash all the dals. Soak for 1 hour and then drain.
Add oil to pan then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and coriander seeds. Cook for 30 seconds and then add chopped onions.
Sauté onions until light brown and then add garlic and ginger paste. Sauté for another 30 seconds and then add salt, red chilies, turmeric, 7 spices, and coriander powder. Add half cup of water and mix all the spices well.
Add tomato paste or chopped tomatoes, if using chopping tomatoes then cook until tomatoes are soft and mixed in. cover for 10 minutes and then add your dry chilies and cover the pot. Dry the mixture completely.
In a separate pan add all the lentils with 3 cups of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 30-40 minutes.
Once lentils are cooked add it to the mixture and mix well and cover for another 5-10 minutes. Then add cilantro. Garnish with green chilies and cilantro and serve hot with bread or rice (rotis or chawal).
